"It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt." - Mark Twain

I don’t know about you, but I got a big kick out of reading all of those Mark Twain quotes! He is too cool!

Today – yes, it’s true – we’re actually going to (gasp!) start reading The Adventures of Tom Sawyer!

First, click on the green arrow at the bottom of this entry to hear a quick introduction to the novel - read by your illustrious teacher.

You can read along with me by clicking here:

Ok. So now you hopefully have a slight idea of what to expect. Let’s get started!

First, click the link below to open one of the many websites that contains an online version of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Remember to “Open in a New Window”!

http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~rgs/sawyr-table.html

Once you’ve got it open, minimize it so that you can come back here and open the next link.

Click the link below, grab those headphones, and enjoy the Preface and first two chapters of……(drum roll, please!) The Adventures of Tom Sawyer!

Click here to listen to the Preface and Chapter 1

Click here to listen to Chapter 2!

When you’ve finished listening, click the link below to visit my new Discussion Board! It’s really just another place for us to communicate about what’s going on in class. You have to login to post, and I’ll come by and give you all your login name and password. For the time being I’ve entered your email as my own, but if you have an email account I’d like to use it instead. That way if you post to the board and someone responds to your post, you’ll get an email notification.

Vocabulary Quiz tomorrow! Most likely I’ll include ALL TWENTY words this time! Do you remember how I asked for the part of speech on the last test? I liked that…(hint, hint!)

See you tomorrow!

YOGOWYPI! (Anyone know what that stands for?)
